Wellness Care and Vaccinations for Your Pet

Your pet's wellness examination is the perfect opportunity for us to conduct a thorough physical exam of your dog or cat and develop a health profile for them. If your pet seems healthy, a wellness examination is a good opportunity to note any changes, such as weight loss or gain, or other subtle changes that may not be quite as evident at home as time goes on.

Our wellness examinations begin with an evaluation of your pet's physical appearance and major organ systems. We'll ask questions about activity level, diet, appetite and behavior at home. This is also a great time for us to discuss any needed vaccinations and routine diagnostic testing that may benefit your pet. Sometimes, information obtained during a wellness examination can be used to detect early signs of illness and address key health issues before they progress into something worse.

We'll also have a conversation where you have a chance to have any questions or concerns about your pet discussed. No question is silly or too small. We welcome your questions and look forward to helping your understand understand your pet’s health.

Lastly, establishing a relationship with you and your pet allows us to continue to offer guidance when needed and offer solutions as any health needs arise. Through our consultations with you, we'll get to know your pet and learn about his or her personality, risks, lifestyle, personality, environment, and other important information. This is the perfect time to take a active role in your pet's health.

WHAT WELLNESS EXAMS AT DADE COUNTY ANIMAL HOSPITAL ENTAIL

The Exam

First, we start with a physical exam to assess your pet’s outward health (and oral health) for any sign of problems. With every annual exam, we'll become more familiar with your pet.

Diagnostics

Next, we suggest blood and fecal testing to screen for parasites and diseases. This gives us a more complete picture of your pet’s overall condition and, if necessary, we can suggest treatment to help.

Vaccinations

Vaccines are another key aspect of your pet’s wellness care. Our veterinarians will always recommend vaccines that best suit your pet’s lifestyle, along with a schedule to keep them on track.

Education

With concern for your pet's health, collaboration is always key. During your visit, we'll answer any questions you have to ensure that we're both on the same page regarding their care.

Preventing Illness, Disease, and Other Health Issues

Today, pets live longer, healthier lives than ever before—in part because of immunizations that protect from infectious disease. Vaccines against dangerous diseases have saved millions of pets and virtually eliminated some fatal diseases that were once quite common. However, infectious diseases still pose a threat to dogs and cats that are left unvaccinated, so vaccines are a must!

A successful vaccine plan and keeping your pet up-to-date on their vaccinations is important. We understand that your pet is unique and that no single vaccine program will be ideal for every pet in every situation. We will consider all these factors as we determine which vaccines your pet should have based on his or her risk.

Our goal is to give you the best advice for keeping your pet healthy and our doctors and other staff members are well-educated about veterinary vaccines.
